“Even better than expected” is the verdict from Bearsden couple Stuart and Janet Ellson about the kitchen installed by West Renovations.
“You get a good idea from the drawings but when we actually saw the finished product it was even better,” said Stuart.
He jokes that he only wishes they had installed it years ago as Janet says she loves it so much she is “cooking all the time”.
A dividing wall separating the kitchen from the dining room has been taken down to create an airy, open plan space with a state-of-the-art island now separating the eating and cooking areas.
“I love not having to be in the kitchen on my own when we have people round,” said Janet. “We were constantly having to go from the kitchen to the diningroom and back again so this is a much better way of living. It’s great for the grandchildren too as they can just run around.”
The new design showcases the beautiful Mereway English Revival hand-crafted, solid oak units made using traditional woodworking methods. The fridge and freezer are neatly concealed behind wooden frontages while there are large drawers for pans, a pullout larder that swivels to allow easy access, a wine fridge and even a drinks cupboard amongst the storage space.
It was a big job for West Renovations as the wall had to be taken down (8 cube rubble) and a 6.5 metre steel beam installed, in a beautifully finished, functioning household.
“We have had a lot of work done in the house over the years but we were very impressed because West Renovations came on time, left on time and tidied up as they went along. There was none of this waiting for the builder to come,” said Janet.
Added Stuart: Simon gave me a breakdown of prices as we went along so there were no surprises. We were able to choose the appliances we wanted and he even looked out for offers on them for us.”
The appliances are certainly impressive. An extractor fan is concealed within the island and rises up when needed at the press of a button as does a row of power points, topped with a mobile phone charger. The modern hob on the island boasts direct flame technology and the fridge and freezer are so silent it’s hard to believe they are behind the cupboard doors.
“We’re really pleased with the end result and our friends and family all like it too,” said Janet.
Simon Dale, who has been in the building industry for 25 years and has been installing kitchens for the past 17 years, chose to use Mereway because of the quality of their product.
“They’re a hugely professional company – other suppliers can let you down but Mereway never do,” he said.
“It’s the complete package which is something that general builders can’t offer and something kitchen retailers can’t offer,” said Simon. “We offer a bespoke kitchen range and a bespoke build/fit service.”
It’s testimony to his professionalism that Mereway have trusted him as one of their suppliers for they’re very choosy and usually you have to have a showroom but because of my long experience and the quality of our work they have allowed us to supply them,” he said. “I wanted to use them because of the quality of their product. It is kitchen furniture, not boxes on a wall. Mereway are another league entirely.”
